Melbourne Design Week: Citizen-led housing developments workshop – March 18
As part of 2018 NGV Melbourne Design Week we ran a workshop on Sunday March 18 at the North Fitzroy Library.
The workshop was a collaborative effort with Katherine Sundermann of MGS Architects & The Melbourne School of Design and Dr. Anthony Duckworth-Smith from the Australian Urban Design Research Centre (AUDRC) and Pimp My Suburb who produced the co-design models.
A little over 30 participants received a crash course in community-led housing, working with potential future neighbours to make collective decisions about their own development.
With a focus on inter-generational living and ageing in place, participants negotiated a hypothetical budget based on the Brunswick East site we picked for the exercise and brief for a small-scale community of around 8 homes.
This event aimed to give participants a practical introduction to the benefits and challenges of citizen-led development.
All ticket sale revenue was donated to Climate for Change.
