We are working with Northside CoHousing to create a sustainable and self governing community in the (inner) North of Melbourne, featuring private housing with communal facilities that promote community interaction and support as well as resource sharing.
The project aims to deliver:
- An intergenerational and mixed tenure community which provides a sense of community and belonging for residents
Around 8-10 well designed high quality townhouses and/or apartments with a mixture of dwelling sizes (new build or retrofit, depending on site) - High performing and energy efficient homes that reduce the environmental and financial footprint
Communal spaces with green spaces and opportunities for social connection, collaboration and resource sharing (e.g. shared meals, space for kids to play, a guest room, shared resources and facilities such as tools, cars and other infrequently used items, and much more. - A participatory design process, that takes into consideration the needs and ideas of all members of the group
The group wants their homes to be as sustainable as possible and understand that sustainability will improve long-term affordability, with upfront investment in design, layout and technology reducing operating costs over time.
The group also want to be cognisant of our impact on the surrounding community and the Indigenous land on which we would be building. The group wants to think intentionally about how they can be good citizens, recognising their Cohousing community as part of a wider and interdependent ecosystem.
Our target time frame for the project is to:
- Establish a core collective in late 2024
- Acquire a site by mid-late 2025
- Circa 4 year development with completion in 2028-2029
